Synopsis:
Joined by Nanachi, Riko and Reg venture to the Fifth Layer, where the Sovereign of the Dawn Bondrewd is waiting for them.

Impressions:
Whereas the two recap films are unnecessary for anyone who's watched Season 1 of the TV series, this film is absolutely essential to bridge the first and second seasons. Bondrewd is a fascinating villain to watch. A lesser writer would have easily succumbed to a number of the common tropes, but the character would not stick with you half as much. I liked the connection that formed between Riko and Prushka, which proves to be quite important for the story. The fight scenes are quite impressive, as are all the other visuals, in keeping with the high bar Kinema Citrus has set for itself. This being Made in Abyss, there's plenty of disturbing and uncomfortable content, but if you've gotten this far, that's not going to deter you. If you've got the courage to brave the Abyss, this one's worth a place in your collection.
