The Man of Letters

The reclusive country gentleman Etienne awaits the birth of his child while struggling to write his magnum opus. He invites the foundling Marie to work in his household as a maid, despite the warning of his wife about the young girl's long-unrequited feelings for him. Etienne is sure the years have changed her and that the childish infatuation has passed, but he is ever so wrong and he cannot possibly imagine the consequences of him underestimating a woman's feelings.
