Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

Director: Frank Oz
Starring: Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia

Synopsis:
When a nerdy florist comes across a strange plant, he gains fame, but at a price. The plant needs blood to grow and soon blood alone isn't enough for it.

Impressions:
I'm not a big fan of musicals. They're just not my thing. However, I'm prepared to make exceptions and this is one of them. This is campy fun with some nice puppetry for the villainous Audrey II (and let's not forget to give due credit to the memorable performance by Levi Stubbs as Audrey II's voice). Rick Moranis is always good at playing a nerd and we have other SNL alums adding to the fun, particularly Steve Martin as the sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello. The songs are catchy and there's some good black comedy. I highly recommend checking out the original ending, which pansy test audiences rejected back in the day. Watch it, Seymour. Watch it all night long.
