TRON (1982)

TRON (1982)

Director: Steven Lisberger
Starring: Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner

Synopsis:
A programmer is beamed into the computer world by the vengeful Master Control Program, which seeks to rule not only cyberspace but also the real world.

Impressions:
TRON may not be high cinema, but it's got a lot of charm and did some innovative things with special effects. The computer world is imaginatively crafted and the aesthetic used still has influence today. Most of the cast pulls double duty both inside and outside the computer world and manage to make the characters on either side distinct. I particularly want to credit Jeff Bridges as Flynn/Clu, Bruce Boxleitner as Alan/Tron and David Warner as Dillinger/Sark/MCP. There's some good action and the computer world veneration of users is an interesting theme. This is an enjoyable film and I highly recommend watching it and, if it clicks with you, adding it to your collection.

Babylon 5 fans should note that Peter Jurasik plays the hapless banking program Crom. Londo and Sheridan in the same movie 12 years before they meet in space.
