Big Game (2014)

Big Game (2014)

Director: Jalmari Helander
Starring: Samuel L Jackson, Onni Tommila, Ray Stevenson

Synopsis:
The President of the United States finds himself stranded in the wilds of Finland after he is betrayed by one of his Secret Service agents and a young hunter is his only ally against trained killers hired to play the deadliest game.

Impressions:
For the "President in peril" subgenre, this is decent enough. At times it becomes a little silly, but I don't think the movie tries to take itself that seriously, so that helps. You might be expecting Samuel L Jackson to play the big action hero, but instead his character is a lovable coward. He works well with young Onni Tommila, who contributes a fair bit to the aforementioned silliness factor. There are some pretty good action set pieces and the conspiracy behind the scenes isn't bad. I'll call it a take it or leave it while leaning toward giving it a watch.
