GATE - Season 2 (2016)

Director: Takahiko Kyogoku
Studio:A-1 Pictures
Starring: Junichi Suwabe, Hisako Kanemoto, Nao Toyama
Episodes: 12

Synopsis:
The peace faction of the Imperial Senate moves to negotiate with the Japanese, while Crown Prince Zorzal plots an all-out war and the Dark Elf Yao pleads with Itami to launch an expedition to slay the Fire Dragon that threatens her people.

Impressions:
The previous season made a good impression, so I was looking forward to the continuation. Some of the novelty factor is gone, but I like the continued political intrigue and further worldbuilding. On the political front, I would've liked to see a little more of the wrangling on our side of the Gate, but I suppose that I can agree with the focus on the other side. The addition of Prince Zorzal to the cast drives much of the conflict and he makes an interesting counterpoint to Piña. I wasn't a big fan of the harem elements being pushed harder, but I've seen worse. All told, the story moves along well enough but doesn't hit as many high points as the previous season. Fans should be satisfied. I don't know if we'll be getting a third season, but the season finale is sufficient for a series finale. I say it's worth a watch, so give it a go.
