Synopsis:
The everyday misadventures of Laffey, Javelin, Ayanami and Z23.
Impressions:
Whereas the previous series played up the big drama of the battle with the Sirens, this is a lighthearted slice-of-life comedy centered on the four starters. The episodes are only eight minutes long, and that's including the 90-second ED. Usually two or three other ships get featured in a given episode, balancing the sprawling cast about as well as can be done. Most of the major players from the previous series don't appear, giving others some time to shine. Naturally, this being Azur Lane, fanservice features prominently, but for the most part, it's nothing too gratuitous. If you're a fan of the franchise, you're probably going to enjoy yourself. If you thought the previous series took itself too seriously, this will be good medicine. Give it a watch.
