Synopsis:
An average boy helps a classmate with social anxiety pursue her goal of making one hundred friends.
Impressions:
There was a lot of buzz around this series and happily the hype proved to be well justified. From the moment Komi-san's cool facade broke to reveal her bug-eyed panic at even the mildest social interactions, I was hooked. There's a strong dynamic between everyman Tadano and Komi-san and this alone would be enough to tell a solid story, but then we add the element of the total oddballs Komi-san has to befriend, which provides plenty of comedy even if many of the side characters are fairly one-note. I want to give particular credit to Rie Murakawa's energetic performance as Najimi, who makes a fine counterpoint to the painfully shy Komi-san. I found the series thoroughly enjoyable and would gladly recommend it for a place in your collection.
