Journey into Fear (1943)

Journey into Fear (1943)

Director: Norman Foster
Starring: Joseph Cotten, Orson Welles, Dolores del Rio

Synopsis:
A engineer coordinating an arms deal with Turkey is targeted by Nazi operatives and must travel incognito to elude them.

Impressions:
This is a decent little wartime thriller starring a lot of the Mercury Theater crowd. There are some similarities to The Third Man. It isn't nearly as good, but it's not bad. Joseph Cotten does well as the out-of-his-depth lead. Orson Welles' role as Colonel Haki isn't all that large, so he's not nearly as much of a scene-stealer as he is in The Third Man. There are some decent twists and the claustrophobic atmosphere on the boat is rather nice, but nothing about this film is exceptional. Still, it's good for a watch, if you ask me.
