Impressions:
I saw part of this almost 30 years ago and finally have gotten back to it to see the whole thing. I like the premise of crossing the gangster and vampire genres and the film has a decent grasp of both. Robert Loggia as the main bad guy Macelli is absolutely glorious. Anne Parillaud is cute, but while her physical performance is solid, her line readings are rather rough, but allowances can be made given that she's not a native English speaker. The effects are generally good, but the contacts used for the vampires are often positioned funnily for some rather silly wall-eyed expressions. (The notion of color coding for their mood is a neat gimmick.) You can argue that in blending two genres the film doesn't fully realize either and no amount of sex scene can keep the second act from dragging as we wait for sundown. It's definitely worth seeing for Loggia's performance alone, but there's enough going on for fans of either or both genres to want to check it out, so give it a watch.
