Underworld (2003)

Director: Len Wiseman
Starring: Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman, Michael Sheen
Synopsis:
The vampires' long war with the Lycans appears to be drawing to a close, but in truth it is only entering a new phase as the Lycans target a seemingly ordinary humanfor an unknown purpose.
Impressions:
Take the modern vampire action of Blade (with all the gadgets to go with it), add in the black longcoats and copious gun fu of The Matrix, set it all in a centuries-old vampire/werewolf war, put a hot chick in the lead, and you get this movie. I do like the arms race going on between the two sides and the political intrigue going on. Kate Beckinsale is solid in the lead and Bill Nighy is really good as the vampire elder Viktor. I won't claim its a master class in writing, but it's fairly entertaining and sometimes that's more than enough. If early Aughts action is your cup of tea, give it a watch.
