Nobody (2021)

Director: Ilya Naishuller
Starring: Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Aleksei Serebryakov
Synopsis:
After a home invasion, a family man stuck in a rut finds himself going back to the life he left behind.
Impressions:
I'd heard good things about this film when it came out, but I didn't go out of my way to seek it out. Thanks to the recent release of the sequel, I was able to get a twofer on the airplane. With Bob Odenkirk's history of comedy and his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, he's not the first person you'd imagine to take the lead in an action film, but he avails himself well and put quite a bit of work in to pull it off. If you want an aversion to the boring invincible hero, Hutch takes almost as much punishment as he dishes out. The bus fight is what will sell you on this, but the other action set pieces are nice, too, and the finale is like a hyperviolent Home Alone. I'd like to give nods to Christopher Lloyd and RZA for rounding out Mansell and Sons. If you're in the mood to sublimate your mid-life crisis with some carnage, this is a good time. Give it a watch.
