Synopsis:
A princess is captured by the demon army and subjected to regular torture to reveal the Empire's secrets.
Impressions:
I don't think I could keep a straight face with the above synopsis. As you quickly learn, the torture that the princess is subjected to are things like fluffy toast and cute critters. These turn out to be quite effective, as the Princess' resolve is about as solid as extra-silky tofu, much to the chagrin of her sapient magic sword Ex. This series reminds me a lot of Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle in that the premise is similar with a lot of comic subversion of the orthodox take on a scenario like this. Much like that series, I thought the main schtick would wear thin rather quickly, but the material manages to remain fresh with a good supporting cast to mix things up. The humor consistently hits and the production values are well above anything a gag series like this would require. This was one of my favorites of the season and I would gladly recommend it for your collection.
