Put the "Ma(魔)" in Magic

Thirteen years ago, the mage community in Valeria was rocked by an incident where a dangerous experiment got out of hand and nearly destroyed an entire city. Shuttering the mage academy at the heart of the incident was seen as too light a punishment, but with the person responsible missing and presumed dead, what more could be done? Ban magic altogether? The government is not so foolish as that.

At the Manticore Mages' Academy in Aquilinus , Giger Taus is a well-regard albeit highly antisocial professor who only took up a teaching position so that the Academy would subsidize his research. However, Professor Taus has a secret. Although he was not responsible for the incident thirteen years ago, he was closely involved and has gone so far as to fake his identity to avoid having to answer for his part in it. All the while, he pursues his own dangerous research which could have devastating implications for the world as people know it.
