Captain Blood (1935)
Director: Michael Curtiz
Starring: Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Lionel Atwill
Synopsis:
For treating a wounded rebel, a virtuous doctor is convicted of treason and sent to the West Indies as a slave. He and his fellow slaves break free and take to the seas as pirates.
Impressions:
Errol Flynn is known as a swashbuckler and this is one of the pictures where he really shows his stuff. Admittedly, I'd be a little leery about consulting a Dr. Blood, but that's just me. This is a fun enough film. An additional hat tip to Basil Rathbone as the slimy French pirate Levasseur and Henry Stephenson as steel-nerved Lord Willoughby. If you like pirates and swordplay, this is the film for you.
