Impressions:
I used to watch the Back to the Future trilogy quite a lot as a kid, but it's been years since I revisited them, so it was interesting coming back to the series from a grownup perspective. A casual viewer is likely to take for granted just how well-made this movie is. There's some great character work with performances to match and a lot of cleverly placed setup and payoff. The fact that we run parallel goals of both returning to the future and repairing the timeline prevents any real lulls in the story with complications expertly positioned to ramp up tensions all the way to the end. Praise for Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd go without saying, but the performances of Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson and Thomas F Wilson also deserve recognition. The score by Alan Silvestri is top-notch, with the main theme being one of the most iconic tunes in all cinema, right alongside the Huey Lewis songs "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time". It might be going a little too far to call this a perfect movie, but it is definitely an excellent one and well worth a special place in your collection.
