Carnosaur (1993)

Carnosaur (1993)

Director: Adam Simon
Starring: Diane Ladd, Raphael Sbarge, Jennifer Runyon

Synopsis:
A scientist's genetic experiments breaks loose in a small Nevada town.

Impressions:
I was listening to a podcast where someone was joking that Carnosaur II was the real adaptation of Jurassic Park and I thought about checking it out, but I figured I should start with the first film. (Note: The two are at best tangentially related.) Now, contrary to what some people may think, this wasn't designed as a mockbuster of Jurassic Park, only pushed out the door to capitalize on the success of the bigger dinosaur flick of '93. It's a Roger Corman-produced B-movie, so that should give you a fair idea what to expect. It's low-budget, with dodgy special effects and mostly so-so acting at best, but there are some charm points to it. I particularly liked Diane Ladd as Dr. Tiptree. Also, we have a lot of hippies getting mauled, so that's fun. Take it or leave it.
