The Mummy's Tomb (1942)

Director: Harold Young
Starring: Lon Chaney Jr., Dick Foran, John Hubbard
Synopsis:
A new high priest of Karnak travels to the US with Kharis to get revenge on Steven Banning and all his bloodline.
Impressions:
The one thing I hate more in sequels than "remember last time" references is devoting a significant portion of the runtime to a recap to the previous film. In this case, nearly 15 minutes of an hourlong movie is spent on a clip show. As you might imagine, that doesn't give us a whole lot of time for the main plot or development of the new characters, so we just skip those bits and have Kharis shamble his way to choking out several characters before the natives rise up for an underwhelming finale. We have Lon Chaney Jr. taking over for Boris Karloff as Kharis, but he doesn't get to do much and the makeup effects aren't as good. I can't think of any reason to watch this beyond being a completionist but I didn't dislike it enough to actively discourage people from watching it. Take it or leave it, said as tepidly as I can.
