Kaguya-sama: Love is War - Volume 2 (2016)

Author/Artist: Aka Akasaka
Publisher: Young Jump Comics

Synopsis:
Shirogane gets a smartphone and tries to come up with a way to get Shinomiya to give him her LINE ID.

Story/Characters:
We get a recap of the premise at the beginning of Chapter 11 because this is when the series jumped (pardon the pun) from Miracle Jump to Weekly Young Jump and so there would've been a number of new readers who hadn't seen the previous chapters (which then gets turned into a funny joke in the anime when they just fast-forward through it). There are a couple chapters that didn't make it into the anime (though the cockroach one gets referenced in the Chika Dance). The "first time" discussion and the NG Word Game are a couple of my favorite early chapters. I do like how Kashiwagi comes to Shinomiya for romantic advice to run in parallel with her boyfriend seeking out Shirogane for help. Hayasaka gets featured more prominently in this volume and I love how she goads Shinomiya along. The final chapter with the welcome party for Shuuchi'in's French sister school has the great encounter with Betsy Beltoise.

Art:
On a basic level, the art is decent. Where Akasaka really shines is with reaction shots. The clash between Shinomiya and Beltoise is a real stand-out.

Other:
We get a stinger teasing the appearance of Ishigami, who won't be showing up for another few chapters and an epilogue with the fallout of the welcome party.

Conclusion:
The first volume did a good job of establishing the main cast and the scenario and here we really see the story hit its stride. If you were won over from the start like I was, then things are only getting better. This is well worth having and I recommend getting it.
