Doctor X (1932)

Doctor X (1932)

Director: Michael Curtiz
Starring: Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray, Lee Tracy

Synopsis:
When suspicion fall on his medical school for a string of murders, the director holds an internal investigation, starting with the instructors.

Impressions:
Some comparisons are made between this and Mystery of the Wax Museum, having the same director, some of the same main actors, the same two-strip Technicolor and even at least one of the same sets, but this is an altogether weaker film. The core plot and the characters aren't all that interesting and the japes of Lee Tracy's reporter character feel rather pointless (but the character himself proves to be somewhat useful by the third act). It is somewhat interesting how they set up five highly probable suspects, but as I've said, there's not much quality to the characterization. If you just want to see an example of two-strip Technicolor as a matter of film history, watch Mystery of the Wax Museum instead.
