Another Thin Man (1939)

Another Thin Man (1939)

Director: WS Van Dyke
Starring: William Powell, Myrna Loy, Virginia Grey

Synopsis:
Nick and Nora plus their infant son go to Long Island to help out on an extortion case that turns to murder.

Impressions:
I've heard that sequelitis sets in with Thin Man series and the first part of the movie certainly had me feeling that was the case. Things improve significantly in the second half, enough for me to bump up the rating. William Powell and Myrna Loy continue to have good chemistry and the addition of Nick Jr. adds an interesting development to their dynamic. I find it really cute how Nick has taken to calling Nora "Mommy". There's also a really impressive dance number at the club that deserves mentioning. The murder plot is a little convoluted, but I suppose that's part of it. It takes a little time to really get going, but if you've taken a liking to the Charles family, I recommend giving it a watch.
