Key Largo (1948)

Key Largo (1948)

Director: John Huston
Starring: Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Edward G Robinson

Synopsis:
An ex-soldier travels to Key Largo to visit the family of one of his men killed in action, only for all of them to be held hostage by a gangster during a hurricane.

Impressions:
This could've just been a drama about Humphrey Bogart's character and the Temple family, but the hostage situation kicks it all up a notch. Edward G Robinson is great as Al Capone expy Johnny Rocco and the hurricane does a good job of increasing already high tension. It's interesting watching the interplay of cynicism and idealism and I really liked the parts where McCloud is smooth-talking his way out of a jam. For a good, tense ride, look no further. Give this one a watch.
