Hondo (1953)

Director: John Farrow
Starring: John Wayne, Geraldine Page, Ward Bond

Synopsis:
A dispatch rider grows close to a homesteader and her son amid rising tensions with the Apache.

Impressions:
If you want a movie that perfectly portrays the sort of rugged individualism and ideal of masculinity John Wayne represents, this is the film. (Wayne himself even joked to this effect.) I like the treatment of the Apache here, neither demonized nor beatified, worthy opponents with their share of good and bad to them. It's one of the quintessential Westerns and definitely worth seeing.
