It Came from Outer Space (1953)

Director: Jack Arnold
Starring: Richard Carlson, Barbara Rush, Charles Drake

Synopsis:
An amateur astronomer investigates a meteor crash in the Arizona desert which turns out to be an alien spacecraft.

Impressions:
While this feels like a fairly stereotypical 50s UFO movie, it's apparently a bit of a subversion to some of the conventions of the day. It's not an amazing film, but it's decent and a good example of the kind of movie that's been constantly referenced and parodied ever since. There are some interesting tricks like a lot of shots from the aliens' POV, but the special effects are nothing great as this is a fairly low-budget project. If you've only experienced this kind of movie second-hand, it's worth your time to give this one a watch.
