Dr. No (1962)

Dr. No (1962)

Director: Terence Young
Starring: Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, Bernard Lee

Synopsis:
MI6 operative James Bond is sent to Jamaica to investigate an attack on a listening post in Kingston and take down the people responsible.

Impressions:
How does the first Bond movie hold up? To put it briefly, it's a bit of a mixed bag. The setup is decent and Sean Connery takes to the role that made him famous quite well, but I felt the third act was rather weak and the potential of Dr. No as a villain was largely wasted. Unlike some of the later Bond movies, there was nothing cringeworthy or just plain stupid to sour the experience, but a weak climax really takes a lot of air out of the sails. This certainly isn't the best entry into the series, but any fan of Bond will of course want to see the movie that started it all. Take that into consideration when you make your decision to watch it or not.
