A Fistful of Dollars (1964)

[Per un pugno di dollari]

A Fistful of Dollars (1964)

Director: Sergio Leone
Starring: Clint Eastwood, Gian Maria Volonté, Marianne Koch

Synopsis:
A drifter wanders into to town to play two rival families against each other for his own profit.

Impressions:
The first entry in the Dollars Trilogy, the first spaghetti Western to make a big international splash, and an unauthorized remake of Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo that got the filmmakers sued, A Fistful of Dollars is an iconic film. I'd say the subsequent entries in the Dollars Trilogy get progressively better, but this is still a good movie. Clint Eastwood does a good job of establishing the sort of character he'd be famous for and Gian Maria Volont&ecute; is also rather good as key villain Ramon Rojos. Naturally, being a spaghetti Western, the dubbing is rather dodgy, particularly young Jesús. I of course have to give all due credit to the memorable score by Ennio Morricone, which may be even more the star of the show than even Eastwood himself. Give this a watch. It's certainly worth your time.
