Mothra (1961)

Director: Ishiro Honda
Starring: Frankie Sakai, Hiroshi Koizumi, Kyoko Kagawa

Synopsis:
A scientific expedition to a remote island triggers the awakening of its guardian.

Impressions:
I've only ever seen Mothra is ensemble features, so I was curious to see her debut where she's the central focus. I say she's the central focus, but she doesn't even hatch until past the halfway mark and she's in larval form for most of her screentime. It's interesting having a kaijuu film where the kaijuu isn't an actively malevolent force and was provoked by human activity. It's decent but not exceptional, and if you're expecting big action, you're going to be disappointed. Take it or leave it.
