Impressions:
I'm a flint-hearted old cynic, but even I can't deny that this movie is very effective at tugging on the audience's heartstrings. I can't think of any other films that I've seen set in the narrow window between the time we pulled out from Vietnam and the fall of the South. Paul Winfield really does an amazing job as the lead, bringing a lot of sensitivity and pathos to the role. I also want to credit young Lemi as Trung, his only film role. It does play out a lot like a Feed the Children commercial, which may turn off some people, but this is a heartfelt film that's worth seeing.
