Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

Director: John Carpenter
Starring: Kurt Douglas, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun

Synopsis:
A truck driver helps his friend save his fiancée from an ancient undead sorcerer in Chinatown.

Impressions:
This is a fun, goofy movie that pays homage to kung fu films and delightfully subverts the Mighty Whitey stereotype. Kurt Douglas' character has been described as a sidekick who thinks he's the hero and it's true. That's not to say he's entirely incompetent, but he's in over his head, out of his element, and his ego outstrips his ability. There's some decent if corny wirework. James Hong is great as the villainous David Lo Pan and Victor Wong also does well as Egg Shen. If you don't take things seriously and are just looking to have some fun, this is a good romp to have. Check it out.
