Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)

Synopsis:
Jason Voorhees proves to be not quite so dead after all and there is a new batch of teenagers in the woods to hunt.

Impressions:
I haven't liked the recaps in the previous two films, and this one is even more disjointed and obtrusive. What a way to get things started. Moving past that, this is actually one of the better entries in the series. Characterization has never been the series' strong point, but there's some halfway decent stuff going on here. I like Tommy as a monster enthusiast, the idea of a Jason hunter (less so the execution), and Crispin Glover being Crispin Glover. Speaking of the latter, his dancing bumps my rating of the film up a point. There's also Tom Savini coming back to do the effects, so for those of you who are here for the gore, you've got that going for you. There are some lame bits, such as one victim literally screaming, "He's killing me!" as Jason is, well, killing him. -_- Anyway, it's funny that the fourth entry in an eleven-film franchise optimistically calls itself "The Final Chapter". It's not great cinema, but among the sequels, this has the most going for it, so give it a watch, for Crispin Glover's dancing if nothing else.
