Blade (1998)

Blade (1998)

Director: Stephen Norrington
Starring: Welsey Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson

Synopsis:
A half-vampire vampire hunter saves a hematologist who may be able to develop a cure for vampirism while an upstart in vampire society plots to claim an ancient power for his own to herald a new era of vampiric rule.

Impressions:
Much like zombies, vampires have been done to death (or undeath as the case may be) in recent years and fatigue can blind you to the good films out there. Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe truly began, we had this little gem. Blade isn't the most high-profile character to go with, but you won't find too many characters tailor-made for their actor than Blade to Wesley Snipes. The look, the attitude, the presence is all pitch-perfect. I also want to give nods to Stephen Dorff as Deacon Frost, a sort of Gen-Xer vampire that defies normal expectations; N'Bushe Wright as Dr. Karen Jenson and Kris Kristofferson as the gruff Whistler. This is a solid film in its own right ignoring the comic connection and is one of the better comic book movies out there. The action is quite good and it's all-around entertaining. Give this one a watch.
