Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999)

Director: Takao Okawara
Starring: Takehiro Murata, Hiroshi Abe, Naomi Nishida

Synopsis:
Godzilla is now regarded as a natural disaster and the Godzilla Prediction Network has been established to respond to the threat.

Impressions:
As the film that kicked off the Millennium Era of Godzilla films, I had some hopes for this movie, but it did something I would've never imagined. It managed to trivialize the threat of Godzilla and make him boring. This movie is painfully dull, with poor writing, bad acting and some rather hideous special effects (outside the well-practiced work with rubber suits and miniatures). In the scene where the classic Godzilla theme kicks in and the final battle with Orga, there's something a bit worthwhile, but you've got to wade through a lot of crap to get to it. I can't say it's worth it. Give this one a pass.
