Impressions:
With most of the folks behind the well-regarded Godzilla vs. Biollante making this, you'd have reason to expect good things from this outing. Well, you'd be wrong. The only reason I don't rate this lower is because some parts (especially the Terminator sequence) were so funny that it partially redeemed the film in my eyes. Given that the bubble would pop the year after this came out, the plot about Japan being the preeminent superpower that demands an international time-travelling conspiracy to subvert is just as silly as all the paranoid American movies about Japanese domination from the 80s. The WWII sequence is very silly as well, what with the bumbling Marines conveniently lining up so a falling tree can take out a whole squad, wooden acting, clumsy dialog and an incredibly fey Naval captain. Is the monster action at least good enough to offset everything else? It sure didn't leave enough of an impression on me to say yes. The silliness is the most I can recommend, so take it or leave it.
