Impressions:
I don't think anyone expected much from this movie when it came out. Kevin Sorbo was riding on his popularity from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and I know that I personally dismissed it out of hand. Well, once I started doing reviews, I couldn't very well leave a movie alone just because it's bad. Well, in Kull's case, it's not so much a bad movie as just a mediocre one. Writing, acting, effects, fight choreography, all decent but not particularly remarkable. I did kinda like that there were villains with competing agendas, but that's about it. There are some nice nods to the old Conan movies, like the look of General Taligaro and casting Sven-Ole Thorsen as King Borna. However, as far as offenses go, the scores tendency to resort to abysmal butt-rock for action scenes. Bleh. Anyway, if you're a Kevin Sorbo fan or you don't mind a little so-so swords and sorcery, give this one a watch. Otherwise, enjoy the cinematic outings of another Robert E Howard strongman.
