Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996)

Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996)

Director: SS Wilson
Starring: Fred Ward, Christopher Gartin, Helen Shaver

Synopsis:
When Graboids attack a Mexican oilfield, the company recruits Earl to help exterminate them.

Impressions:
To the surprise of no one, the sequels to Tremors are a step down from the original, but there's honestly not quite as much dropoff as some franchises. Even though Earl's new partner Grady is supposed to be annoying, it doesn't change the fact that he's pretty daggone annoying, though I do like the idea of pairing Earl with a fan of his and him getting a serious reality check in the course of the story. Lore-wise, we expand on the Graboids some more. The practical stuff remains quite good and while the CG has aged poorly, it was close to top-of-the-line when this was made (as you would expect from Tippett Studio) and they were bold enough to use it in the daylight. It's not nearly as smartly written as the first film, but this is a decent enough watch. I don't recommend it that warmly. Take it or leave it.
