While You Were Sleeping (1995)

While You Were Sleeping (1995)

Director: John Turteltaub
Starring: Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, Peter Gallagher

Synopsis:
After a lonely transit worker saves the life of a man she is infatuated with, she is mistaken for his fianée and complications pile up as she is welcomed into his family.

Impressions:
This movie helped cement Sandra Bullock's reputation as America's sweetheart and she really does charm as the clumsy Lucy. She has good chemistry with Bill Pullman and the secondary characters are all a lot of fun. I particularly liked Lucy's dynamic with Saul, but as I said, pretty much the whole cast is a joy to watch. I tend to come down pretty hard on romcoms because I find most to be rather unsatisfying, overly reliant on gimmickry and other nonsense, but this is one that I feel is executed quite well, to the point of appealing beyond just the target demographic. If this genre is your jam, I'd say it's a must-own, but for general audiences, I'd say it warrants a watch at the very least.
