Director: Makoto Shinkai

Synopsis:
Episodes of love and loss over the years in a young man's life.

Impressions:
As I was watching this, I realized I've only seen two of the entries in Makoto Shinkai's filmography, the obvious Kimi no Na wa and the more recent Suzume no Tojimari. While those two films were more imaginative in their concept and execution, this one is more grounded, with no fantastical elements to it. It's a simple tale of the chances we miss, the ones we never realize and the ones we let slip away, told in the course of three episodes. The story is poignant in the way that a lot of these love stories are, and if that's your cup of tea, you should find it a nice watch. I'm not the biggest fan of stories like this, but I can acknowledge the competent storytelling and the artistic merit of the production, which is enough for me to recommend it for a watch at the very least.
