I, Robot (2004)

Director: Alex Proyas
Starring: Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan, Bruce Greenwood

Synopsis:
A technophobic cop investigates the supposed suicide of a leading roboticist and against all conventional wisdom, he suspects a robot of murder.

Impressions:
This makes me think of Will Smith's later picture I Am Legend, perhaps because they're both Aughts-era adaptations of pieces of 50s scifi tailored to their lead. Really, this is fine, a reasonably entertaining watch. I guess it's supposed to be a bit of a joke that Bridget Moynahan's character is almost more robotic than the actual robots until about the third act, but I really can't stand Straw Vulcan types. There's so much CG and greenscreen that I really feel my inner Plinkett grumbling about it just being a big video game. It's technically proficient, but the age is starting to show and I personally find aging CG to be more damaging to suspension of disbelief than dated practical effects, but I know I'm just old-fashioned. Actually, I'd probably get along pretty well with Smith's character. I haven't quite gotten to the point of wearing vintage Converse sneakers, but I may not be that far off. Like I said, this is still fairly entertaining and it's worth a watch.
