Jurassic Park III (2001)

Impressions:
Having had a mixed but generally positive reception to The Lost World when it came out, I didn't really think there needed to be another Jurassic Park film, especially not when there was no book by Michael Crichton as source material. I skipped the film in theaters and haven't gotten around to watching it until recently. I can tell you, I wasn't missing much. It's nice that they got Sam Neill back (and Laura Dern too, albeit in a much smaller role), but the story isn't great and the new characters don't have much going for them. More importantly, the shilling of Spinosaurus is particularly annoying. (I like many others don't particularly like that dino and definitely don't favor it above the iconic T-Rex. Curse you, Jack Horner.) While the practical effects remain good, the CG stands out more, especially with the more garish coloration given to a lot of dinosaurs. I mean, if you just have to have another JP flick and you're not too particular about what you get, you might find it worth watching, but I would've been fine going without. Oh, and get ready to hate the sat phone's ringtone. >_<
