Synopsis:
An abrasive editor faces the threat of deportation and so concocts a marriage fraud scheme with her assistant, but then they have to sell the scam to his family.
Impressions:
I'm by no means the intended audience for a film like this, so that already makes it an uphill battle to win me over. There are some interesting points worth noting, though. Having Sandra Bullock play against type pushes her boundaries a bit, but the character is only marginally meaner than her character in Two Weeks Notice. Having this character play off Ryan Reynolds snarkiness makes for a fairly amusing dynamic. The real treat is Betty White as the grandma, which is the main thing that makes this worth watching. (She and Bullock have a particularly absurd scene that I won't spoil so you can enjoy it for yourself if you choose to give it a watch.) For the most part, it's a fairly standard romcom chick flick and if that's your thing, you might find it worth a watch. For me, though, this kind of film has to work a bit harder, so I'm going to say take it or leave it.
