Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004)

Director: SS Wilson
Starring: Michael Gross, Sara Botsford, Brent Roam
Synopsis:
In 1889, work at a silver mine halts when a number of miners are killed under mysterious circumstances, prompting the owner to venture out from out East to get the surviving miners back to work.
Impressions:
Setting a Tremors film in the Wild West is a nice idea for a sequel. We bring down the tech level and strip away the established knowledge about how the Graboids work to up the difficulty level. I want to give a special nod to Michael Gross' performance as Burt's ancestor Hiram, which is quite different from what were used to. Acting, ladies and gentlemen. Billy Drago as Black Hand Kelly was underutilized, I thought, but I did appreciate that there seemed to be a little more going on with his character. Of what I've seen, it's probably the best of the sequels but still not quite strong enough for an unreserved recommendation. Take it or leave it, inclined more toward the former than the latter.
