Impressions:
I really didn't like the theatrical recuts of the TV series, but I wanted to see this movie just because I was curious where they'd take this continuity. Now, I feel that reviving Lelouch undermines the tragic punch of Zero Requiem, but it is nice seeing all the characters back. There are some new mech designs, which add some novelty to the action sequences. The antagonists are somewhat interesting but nothing too amazing. I did rather like Bitool. The after-credits stinger has a really nice hook. I feel about this film the way I do about most theatrical anime. It's a decent watch, but I'd much rather see the development over the course of a series. The original series remains the gold standard for the franchise, but because I don't have to compare this movie directly to that series as I had to do with the previous trilogy, this comes off much better. Give it a watch.
