Impressions:
I didn't think much of this film when it came out and didn't bother to see it until now. It didn't fare well with either critics or audiences, so I wasn't looking forward to my decision to watch it all that much. However, having seen it, it's not nearly as bad as its reputation would have you think. It's not great by any means, but it does its thing well enough. I thought it felt a lot like Underworld and, lo and behold, that series' creator Kevin Grevioux was behind this as well. Basically, if you liked Underworld, you'll probably like this well enough too (unless your sole reason for liking Underworld was Kate Beckinsale, in which case the low fanservice factor will disappoint you). I thought the concept of gargoyles as angelic proxies in the earthly war against demonkind to be neat enough. The design of Frankenstein's monster isn't all that monstrous. It's just Aaron Eckhart with some scars and an antisocial personality (with some training with Body By Jake apparently). I wasn't a huge fan of a lot of the CG effect work, but you get some pretty good set pieces, especially the bigger battles. It's a decent enough science fantasy action flick that you might just want to watch.
