Keanu (2016)

Director: Peter Atencio
Starring: Jordan Peele, Keegan-Michael Key, Tiffany Haddish

Synopsis:
Two friends pretend to be dangerous hitmen in a bid to reclaim a catnapped kitten from a gangster.

Impressions:
I don't have any prior experience with the comedic stylings of Key and Peele, but the premise had my attention when the film was first being advertised and I decided to check it out when it hit the cable circuit. Any movie that has an adorable tabby kitten doing dramatic slo-mo has something going for it at least. I actually found the movie to be pretty funny. It reminds me a bit of Hot Fuzz in its take on the action comedy and the incredible nerdiness of our protagonists juxtaposed with the thug world they dive into is good for some laughs. (There's something particularly amusing about the way Key's character nerds out to George Michael so much.) Some comparisons can also be made to Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and if that kind of movie is your cup of tea, you should like this. I won't say the movie is for everyone, but if you see the trailer and it's piqued your interest, give this one a shot. If you get even half the chuckles I did out of it, it'll be worth your time.
