---

Director: Akiyuki Shinbo, Yukihiro Miyamoto

Impressions:
Unlike Beginnings and Eternal, this is an all-new story. That ensured this film had my interest in a way the compilations did not. I did enjoy trying to work out what was going on before the reveal. Honestly, for a bit I was starting to think Urobuchi was going to pull the ultimate subversion by making this just be a standard light and fluffy mahou shoujo story. Ha ha ha. Anyone who knows Urobuchi knows better. While the story is fairly interesting and worthwhile, I honestly could've lived without a continuation of the story. I liked the note that the original series ended on and I feel this undermines that, but if you're wanting further development of Homura's character, you may welcome this more than I did. There are some rather nice fight sequences and, as you might expect, Shaft isn't slouching here. I have some reservations overall on the direction of the story, but I recommend giving it a watch all the same.
