Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

Director: Kenneth Branagh
Starring: Kenneth Branagh, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe

Synopsis:
The famed detective Hercule Poirot works to solve a complex murder case on a derailed train.

Impressions:
The movie had me intrigued from the trailer. Now, I haven't read the original story, nor have I seen any previous adaptations, so I was going into this fresh. I so closely associate the role of Poirot with David Suchet that I wasn't sure what I was going to think about Kenneth Branagh taking the lead role. He's a good actor, but at times he can get carried away (which can be its own entertainment). He doesn't go overboard here and delivers a respectable performance. There's a fine ensemble cast for the murder suspects. I was particularly looking forward to seeing Daisy Ridley test out her acting chops outside the Sequel Trilogy. As I mentioned before, I had no prior exposure to the source material or its adaptation, so the third act reveal really threw me for a loop. I liked this film quite a bit and definitely consider it worth a watch.
