Synopsis:
On his first command, a destroyer captain must lead a convoy across the Atlantic and comes under attack by a German wolfpack.

Impressions:
With my dad being such a big WWII buff, it's little surprise that he would show this to me. I don't know if I've ever seen a war movie from the perspective of an escort for merchant ships. Most movies involving submarine warfare focus on the submarines, so this was an interesting change of pace. There's a strong sense of tension throughout, punctuated by the brief bursts of action when the wolfpack moves in. The thought of a scant four destroyers just keeping themselves alive, much less over thirty defenseless merchant ships and transports is daunting to say the least. Tom Hanks does well as Captain Krause. At first I had concerns about the stiffness of his performance, but it would appear to have been a character thing and from what we see of Krause, it would stand to reason that such a reserved individual would be awkward around his love interest. Anyway, it's a solid film and I recommend giving it a watch.
