Impressions:
I'm glad that I decided to pick up this series. You've heard me complain constantly about unsatisfying romances, so this has been a real treat to watch. There have been some shows on the saccharine side which are pleasant enough to watch but rather lightweight. What sets this one apart is the emotional depth of the characters, and having the characters be middle-schoolers makes a lot of the struggle feel more genuine and appropriate for their maturity level. The dynamic between Ichikawa and Yamada is first-rate and we make good progress, leading to a nice conclusion that brings things full circle and provides a jumping-off point for a potential continuation (as the manga is still ongoing) but also wraps things up sufficiently if we don't get to see more on the screen. If the average Japanese romcom ails you, this is the remedy and it belongs in your collection along with the first season.
