Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002)

Director: Steve Oedekerk
Starring: Steve Oedekerk, Fei Lung, Leo Lee
Synopsis:
A prophesied warrior seeks to avenge the death of his family in this parody mishmash.
Impressions:
I first saw this not long after it hit the DVD circuit, thanks to the PX regularly being stocked with cut-rate films and my battle buddy being prone to impulse buys. You need to have a very particular sense of humor to enjoy a movie like this. It's really dumb, but if this brand of dumb manages to tickle your funny bone, it'll probably be worth seeing. You have to like the idea of a gag dub of an HK kung fu flick with ridiculous set pieces and deliberately terrible effects. Actually, I find that the DVD's undubbed version (which has the off-kilter lines used to disconnect the new footage from the script) as a follow-up viewing is even funnier. I warn you, though. If the movie doesn't click with you, you'll probably hate it, so maybe watch a trailer or some clips online before investing in a full viewing. And if you do like it, don't hold your breath for Kung Pow 2, though I suppose anything could happen.
