Only Angels Have Wings (1939)

Only Angels Have Wings (1939)

Director: Howard Hawks
Starring: Cary Grant, Jean Arthur, Rita Hayworth

Synopsis:
A struggling air service in South America must brave daunting weather and terrain to make the deliveries it needs to secure a new contract.

Impressions:
I liked the setting for this movie. Because of the remoteness of the outpost, there's a good tight-knit dynamic among the characters and there's a good mix of internal and external challenges to fuel the conflict. Usually I like the interactions between the male and female leads in a Howard Hawks film, but I really wasn't that impressed with the interactions between Cary Grant and Jean Arthur's characters. Their relationship didn't do much for me, but it didn't detract much from the film as a whole. It's far from my favorite Hawks' film, but it's still worth a watch.
